During Routes World 2025, Stuttgart Airport (STR) was named the winner of the 5–10 Million Passengers category at the Routes Awards ceremony in Hong Kong, recognizing its strategic marketing efforts and strong airline partnerships that continue to drive growth.

Located in Baden-Württemberg, Germany’s third-largest state, Stuttgart Airport (STR) serves as a gateway to one of Europe’s most diverse and economically vibrant regions. The airport handled more than 9.1 million passengers in 2024 and has recorded a 4.2% increase through August 2025.

STR’s route development success over the past year underscores the impact of its collaborative approach with airline partners. Eurowings has been a key growth driver, launching four flights per week to Dublin in March, 2X-weekly services to Malta in June, and 2X-weekly flights to Amman in October. The airline will further expand STR’s network this winter with new Marrakesh flights and an extended Agadir service.

Long-haul connectivity received a significant boost when Condor announced its daily service to Dubai International Airport (DXB) beginning in October. This development complemented Eurowings’ decision to increase its own DXB route frequency from 4X-weekly to daily during the winter 2025-26 schedule.

Additionally, FlyOne launched service to Chisinau, Moldova, increasing passenger choice on a route also served by Eurowings. Turkish carrier SunExpress expanded its presence at STR in May with three new routes to Ordu-Giresun, Bursa and Edremit, capitalizing on strong market demand. Wizz Air further diversified the airport’s network with the introduction of a new Skopje service on Sept. 29.

These successes, combined with STR’s comprehensive marketing campaigns aimed at boosting engagement and fostering customer loyalty, contributed to its recognition at the Routes World 2025 Awards. Reflecting on the achievement, Christoph Kenner, Vice President Commercial Aviation, said: “Winning the award is a great recognition for the outstanding work our team has delivered over the last year. Despite high operating costs in Germany and a competitive post-pandemic environment, STR has sustained its momentum by pairing detailed market analysis with an attractive incentive program and maintaining close collaboration with its airline partners.
