Lufthansa Technik, Chromalloy Team Up On V2500 PMA Offerings

LONDON—Lufthansa Technik (LHT) will begin offering Chromalloy-made IAE V2500 parts for customers undergoing overhauls on the venerable narrowbody engines, kicking off a new offshoot of a longstanding collaboration that is expected to add more parts and repair options.

The deal, announced Oct. 14 at Aviation Week’s MRO Europe here, comes after “several months” operating two parts installed on a “double-digit” number of engines, LHT said.

The parts—second-stage, high-pressure turbine (HPT) blades and seventh-stage, high-pressure compressor blades—are the first two of several parts manufacturer approval (PMA) turbine blades Chromalloy is developing for the SelectOne variant of the V2500.

Three others, including a first-stage HPT blade, are in various stages of FAA review, Chromalloy President Chris Celtruda told Aviation Week. All three are expected to be approved by around mid-2026, he said. Also in the queue are parts for older V2500 variants.

“We’ll be announcing a bunch of compressor blade approvals on the [V2500],” Celtruda said. “We’re going to deliver the rest of that value proposition next year.”

Chromalloy is working on some high-value, designated-engineering-representative repairs that will become part of LHT’s offerings. Among them is a laser-cladding process to repair cracked fan blades that is under FAA review, Celtruda said. Also in the works are several combustor repairs. Once approved by regulators, the parts and repairs will be added as options to LHT customers.

“Going forward, customers who choose Lufthansa Technik for their V2500 SelectOne engine overhauls will have a choice,” Thomas Boettger, LHT’s vice president of corporate procurement, said in a statement. “They can either continue to rely on OEM parts or opt for the more cost-efficient PMA components—with identical performance and safety. We’re proud to offer this alternative together with Chromalloy. This development marks a significant milestone in our partnership.”

The two companies have been working together since the late 1990s, when LHT became a founding member of what is now Chromalloy’s BELAC PMA production facility. The latest deal extends their agreement to 2035.
